The Train Girl Untold Story
First, let me say that I have done Honors and Masters in Chemistry. But that means there is no reason to think that chemistry is my favorite subject. Rather, chemistry is one of my least favorite subjects. In HSC and SSC I got the lowest marks in Chemistry. Still, I did an honors master's in Chemistry. Why? Because at that moment it was the best subject available in my institution and my family wanted me to take it. Took, studied, and got good results. And then made my career in a completely different direction. If I tried to make a career in chemistry, I wouldn't have succeeded in life. Anyway, I see many educated people moaning about why a lady became a metro rail train operator after studying a subject like chemistry. The lady's name is Maryam Afiza. He completed his Masters in Chemistry and Chemical Engineering from Noakhali University of Science and Technology and was appointed as a Metrorail driver. Apart from her 5 more women drivers have joined Metrorail. If I am not mistaken I saw the Metrorail driver recruitment circular and discussed it with Ehsan Sahib immediately. The notification read - "Bachelor's CGPA in first division with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics or equivalent. Any person who has obtained third class at any stage of education will not be accepted." (or something like that. I saw it a long time ago, can't remember exactly) I didn't understand the reason for the whining people though. What did they think, a CNG driver or minibus driver should be installed to run metro rail?? Can a rickshaw puller fly a plane, does he have that education? The idea is absurd! If it is not dishonorable for a pilot to fly a plane, why should it be dishonorable to ride the Metrorail? How do these strange thoughts come to people's minds when they are highly educated and cannot run the Metrorail? Rather, the job requirement was highly educated people in science to run the thing! Congratulations and best wishes to Maryam Afiza.Only 29 people from all over Bangladesh were appointed for this post, she is one of them. Bangladesh Metrorail will start its journey with its hands. I see this as development and progress. Kudos to him for thinking outside the box, and choosing a challenging career for himself.
